Ah, Lansdowne. I guess I should start at the beginning. I believe the park was built somewhere between '79-'81. It was originally intended to be a private park that charged admission and had a proshop alongside it. Someone was quite upset about this, I've heard that it was neighborhood residents, angry that there children would have to pay to get in the park (or perhaps that there was a park at all). I've also heard that it was local skaters, upset about the paying situation as well. Anywho, the day before the park was supposed to open the proshop burned to the ground. The company that had built the park ended up selling it to the county, and the county pretty much let it sit there, unsupervised and unmaintained, for about 20 years. I have gathered the story so far through word of mouth, so some of it could be local legend. If you have more of the story, feel free to contact me.

In 2001 the county decided to renovate the skatepark. They added a fence, pad rules, a park nanny, and a waiver. The new rules were strictly enforced for a brief period of time, but after a year or so the park has reverted back to its old ways. The fence has been torn down, there is no more park nanny to enforce waivers or pads, and the park is still pretty much unmaintained. There is some constuction going on and it appears that a parking lot will be there soon. The rough asphalt areas are supposed to be smoothed out with concrete and coping put all around. There is also supposed to be a 'beginners' area built. Whether any of this will come to pass is debatable, but in the meantime, its free and there aren't any rules, so hit it up, just be prepared to bleed.

Here are a couple pics of the terrain:

Lansdowne has appeared in many videos over the years. The earliest one I know of is Gullwing's Inside Out. The most recent one I have come across is Miscellaneous Debris.

I took some newer pics of lansdowne since they made some modifications. The asphalt has been paved over with concrete. They did a surprisingly good job with this. They also put some coping on, which left a bit to be desired. Anywho, here are the pics: ##one##two##three##four##
